Hunter Pence Close to Returning to Giants Lineup

Hunter Pence was hit by a pitch on March 5th and fractured his forearm. The San Francisco Giants offense has missed him dearly. Pence is considered day-to-day and could be activated this weekend!

Giants Offense MLB Ranks

  • Runs 29th
  • Batting Average 10th
  • On Base Percentage 10th
  • Slugging Percentage 23rd
Pence will return to the Giants and complete their OF for the first time all season, joining Nori Aoki and Angel PaganJustin Maxwell and Gregor Blanco have struggled to fill the void, but Maxwell has plated 15 runs, good for 2nd on the team behind SS Brandon Crawford and tied with Matt Duffy.  That is pretty telling of how real the struggle has been for San Fran.

Remember, Pablo Sandoval left this team this offseason.

Pence is a top of the order guy and will move Joe Panik or Angel Pagan down to 6th in the lineup, behind Brandon Belt and in front of Casey McGehee.  McGehee doesn't even belong on the big league club at this point and is taking away an opportunity from Adam Duvall.

Belt has yet to hit a home run and has just 7 RBI on the season.

Buster Posey is hitting .291, with 5 home runs and 14 RBI and is tied for the team lead in runs scored with 15.

Getting Pence back is a great morale boost for the entire club and he returns at a time when the bats are heating up and the team is 8-4 in May improving to 17-17 on the season. If he doesn't return this weekend against the Reds, with an off day Monday, he is almost sure to be a part of the Giants-Dodgers series starting Tuesday!
