The Houston Astros have acquired Scott Kazmir from the Oakland A's for prospects Daniel Mengden and Jacob Nottingham. Kazmir was scheduled to start today for Oakland. He will stay in the American League West, where he has won 20 games since the start of the 2014 season. Kazmir owns a 3.14 in 50 starts with the A's, going 300 innings with 265 strikeouts and 85 walks.
Kazmir's home/away splits have not been very good in 2015, struggling to pitch outside of O.co Coliseum
He doesn't have much experience pitching at Minute Maid Park, but has allowed all 7 of his home runs in his 8 road starts. However, the Astros are a much better team than the A's and Kazmir should receive plenty of run support, especially in those home starts. Overall, this is good news for fantasy baseball owners. The Astros bullpen has the 4th best ERA while Oakland's bullpen was terrible. Kazmir has left 4 games in line for a W, and the bullpen lost it.
Kazmir joins a solid Astros pitching rotation that already features Dallas Keuchel, Collin McHugh, and Lance McCullers. When we highlighted the Astros earlier in the season, we stated that they needed to add pitching in order to compete for the AL West crown.
