Fantasy Football - Dallas Cowboys RB Battle

The Dallas Cowboys featured the #1 running back in the NFL last season, seeing DeMarco Murray rush for 1,835 yards on 392 carries!  It wasn't just the volume that allowed this to happen, Murray was 2nd in the league in runs over 20 yards with 15, only Justin Forsett (17) had more.  No other running back rushed for 20+ yards 10 times.  To add insult to injury, the Cowboys added La'el Collins this offseason, signing the undrafted rookie, who just happened to be one of the best O-line prospects in the draft.  However, Murray is gone and the 'Boys added Darren McFadden to join Joseph Randle in the backfield this offseason.

It would appear as if Randle is going to be the starter come Week 1, but I am not even sure Jason Garrett knows how he will split the carries between the two.  Randle did average 6.7 yards per carry in 2014, but had just 51 rushing attempts.  He had 3 runs go for 20+ and scored 3 touchdowns.  He is just 23 years old and entering his 3rd season out of Oklahoma State, so we have not yet seen the best of Randle.

McFadden rushed for 534 yards on 155 carries with the Oakland Raiders last season, adding 212 receiving yards, catching 36 of his 55 targets.  He had just one run go for 20+ yards and scored twice.  McFadden has been a major disappointment since being drafted 4th overall by the Raiders in the 2008 NFL Draft out of Arkansas.  He has just a single 800+ rushing yard season (1,157 -2010) under his belt in 7 seasons, and last year was the first time in his career that he played in all 16 games.  He totaled 10 TDs in 2010 thanks to 3 receiving touchdowns, and has only totaled 5 TDs in two other seasons.  Leaving Oakland could be a career changer for McFadden, especially running behind this Cowboys line.

If I had to guess, I would assume Randle gets 70-80% of the carries this season.  Early on, it might be more of a 60/40 split, but Randle has the ability to break a long run.  However, McFadden will be a thorn in the side of Randle's owners.

We Ranked Randle 27th in Our Fantasy Football RB Rankings

Average Draft Position

Fantasy Football Cowboys Randle McFadden ADP

In our Yahoo ADP Mock Draft, Randle was selected 8.3, 87th overall 26th RB.  McFadden was the 12th and final pick of that round, 96th overall.  Fantasy Football Calculator has Randle being selected in the 4th round, 20th RB, ahead of Latavius Murray, Jonathan Stewart and TJ Yeldon, with McFadden in the 8th.  The Fantasy Pros ADP Rankings places Randle as the 24th RB and McFadden 31st.  Overall, Randle is being drafted 58th, with CBS owners grabbing him before the 50th pick!  McFadden is going 77th overall.  CBS fantasy owners are taking Randle before DeAndre Hopkins, Brandin Cooks, Greg Olsen and Travis Kelce.  ESPN and Yahoo players are drafting all 4 of them ahead of Randle while the FFC shows the WRs above the RB followed by the TEs.
