The Boston Red Sox continue to spend money like it grows on trees, this time signing free agent SP David Price to a record setting 7 year $217 mil contract. It will match Miguel Cabrera's season high $31 mil per year, also handed out by Dave Dombrowski. For some odd reason, the Red Sox also already agreed to a $13 mil 2 year deal with OF Chris Young.
Remember, under a different GM, the Sox signed Hanley Ramirez, Pablo Sandoval, Rick Porcello and Justin Masterson, traded for Wade Miley and won 78 games last season. Clearly the way to fix all that is just spend more money!
Dombrowski also sent some of Boston's top prospect to the San Diego Padres earlier to acquire Craig Kimbrel.
Now, to be fair to Boston, David Price is the second best LHP in baseball behind Clayton Kershaw and loves pitching at Fenway Park.
Over the last 100 years, only one pitcher has a lower ERA than David Price when pitching at Fenway Park: Babe Ruth (1.76) - min. 10 starts— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) December 1, 2015
The only difference this time around is that Price will not be pitching against the Red Sox, yet for them, against the likes of Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, Josh Donaldson, Adam Jones, Manny Machado, Evan Longoria and other quality right handed hitters in the AL East, not to mention all the other sluggers coming to Boston.
