NBA 2K16 Nets Rebuild Project

LeBron James Brooklyn Nets

With the NBA trade deadline behind us, we fast forward to this summer's NBA Draft and attempt to rebuild NBA franchises that are in need of desperate help.

We move onto the Brooklyn Nets.

We limited our rebuild projects to the end of the 2020 NBA Finals.

Steph Curry Finals MVP
  • 32.3 points

2016 NBA Draft Top 5 Picks

  1. 76ers - Ben Simmons
  2. Magic - Jaylen Brown
  3. Timberwolves - Dragan Bender
  4. 76ers - Buddy Hield
  5. Jazz - Brandon Ingram
Thanks to previous moves made by the Nets front office, I was stuck with no draft picks to help build a future. I was offered the 9th pick of the second round along with Tyson Chandler for Bojan Bogdanovic. I turned it down as I did not want to take on Chandler and his $39 million owed over the next three years.

Turning my attention to free agency, LeBron James opted out and tested the open market, so I knew I had to make an attempt to sign him. With about $40 million available to spend, I offered him a three year deal worth $91.97 million (the deal included a player option for a fourth year and a full no trade clause). That left me with still over $12 million to play with.

To the surprise of many, LeBron accepted the offer, move to Brooklyn and join the Nets.

I then was able to strike a deal with Harrison Barnes - a 3 year deal worth $31 million, as well as O.J. Mayo to improve my weak guard position.

All in all, it was a very successful offseason for Brooklyn.

Going back to where it all began, Dwight Howard signed a deal with the Orlando Magic - 4 years for $84 million and Joe Johnson returned to Atlanta on a 3 year agreement.

The Wizards allowed Bradley Beal to walk, signing with Milwaukee and Dwyane Wade got paid by Memphis - 90 million over 4 years.

2016-17 NBA Season

LeBron will lead a starting five consisting on Brook Lopez, Thaddeus Young, O.J. Mayo and Shane Larkin. Both Harrison Barnes and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson will see big minutes off the bench.

After a dreadful 1-10 start, I was offered a deal which sent Brook Lopez and Chris McCullough to Denver in exchange for Will Barton and Nikola Jokic. Not only does this deal make the Nets younger, but it also saves a ton of money getting rid of Lopez and his $20+ mil. Jokic and Barton joined the starting rotation, sending Mayo the bench.

My goal was to get back to .500 by the All-Star game, but I currently sit 24-31 at the break and sit just two games back of the 8 seed in the East.

At the trade deadline, I was offered Goran Dragic and Marreese Speights for Harrison Barnes. As much as I did not want to deal Barnes, I knew I didn't have a choice as I was getting horrible production at the point guard position. This would give LeBron and company a real point guard to work with in the second half and make a playoff push - so I pulled the trigger and accepted.

I finished the season 42-40, going 18-9 in the second half, giving this team great confidence heading to the playoffs as the 6 seed.

Russell Westbrook was named season MVP nearly averaging a triple double
  • 23.8 points
  • 10.5 assists
  • 9.7 assists
For a second straight year the 76ers had the Rookie of the Year, this time it was Ben Simmons.

NBA Playoffs 2017

Round 1 vs Pacers (3) - lost in five

It was an awful series for Brooklyn, shooting just 40% from the field and just 20% from downtown.

LeBron averaged just 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4.7 assists.

Golden State won a third straight NBA championship, beating the Chicago Bulls in 5 games.

Steph Curry was named Finals MVP.

2017 NBA Draft Top 5 Picks

  • Mavericks - Harry Giles
  • Heat - Malik Monk
  • Nuggets - Josh Jackson
  • Wizards - Jayson Tatum
  • Hawks - Malik Beasley
With the 8th pick in the draft, I selected the best available player,Dennis Smith Jr., PG out of North Carolina State.

With the 38th pick, I selected Dwayne Bacon.

Needing to make another splash this off season, I offered restricted free agent Rudy Gobert a 3 year deal worth $39 million and to my surprise the Utah Jazz did not match.

2017-18 NBA Season

We opened the season with a win against the Knicks, but at the same time we lost Rondae Hollis-Jefferson for 4-6 months with a dislocated Left Patella. It's a big loss but he should be able to return this season (fingers crossed).

The All-Star break could not have come at a better time as we have lost 6 of 7 and sit at 27-26.

With just 7 games remaining, Hollis-Jefferson finally returns from injury!

Finishing with the same record as last season 42-40 we locked up the 6 seed.

Russell Westbrook again wins the season MVP

Josh Jackson was named Rookie of the Year

NBA Playoffs 2018

vs Bulls (3) - advance in four game sweep

So the good news is that we swept the Bulls, advancing to the second round. The bad news is we lost Thad Young for the year with a broken kneecap.

Young averaged 11.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in his 3+ games. Patrick Patterson, who I signed in the offseason, stepped into the starting rotation and scored 15 points with 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 blocks in the game 4 win.

LeBron averaged 25.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 2 steals and 2.3 blocks.
Dragic averaged 21.5 points, 7.2 assists
Jokic averaged 16 points, 8.5 rebounds

vs 76ers (2) - Lost in 5

Jahlil Okafor tore a ligament in his left elbow and was forced to leave game 1, but he played through it the rest of the series. We had no answer for Buddy Hield and Ben Simmons. It was a good run this year but it's back to work for next season!

DYNASTY - The Golden State Warriors beat Philly in seven games four their fourht consecutive NBA crown.

Curry wins finals MVP

2018-19 NBA Season

With limited cap space and no draft picks, I was unable to make any significant moves to improve this team. I did resign Will Barton.

Thanks to staying healthy and a number of mini weak streaks, including a season high 8 games, I sit at 42-13 at the all-star break and the number 1 team in the league!

We finished the year at 57-25 and LeBron takes the MVP at age 34! His first since 2013.

NBA Playoffs 2019

vs Pistons (7) - Win in 7

Down 3-0 to start the series, it was panic mode in Brooklyn! Luckily I have the MVP on my team and LeBron helped the Nets make a huge comeback and defeat the Pistons 4-3. Take a look at close these wins were for us - 97-95, 106-93, 105-101, 112-109. We very easily could have been eliminated in three of those wins.

Aside from LeBron and his 21.6 points per game, Young, Dragic, Smith Jr. and Jokic all averaged at least 13 points in the series. Gobert was a beast on the boards off the bench, averaging 11.4 rebounds in 29 minutes a game.

vs Magic (3) - Lost in 4

Well Jaylen Brown is the reason we got blown out in this series. The 22 year old was unstoppable, averaging 19 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.3 steals.

The Minnesota Timberwolves win the NBA Championship 4-0 over the Orlando Magic. With Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns and Zach Lavine just 24 and 23 years of age, they might dominate this league for years to come.

Wiggins won the Finals MVP

2019-20 NBA Season

Entering my fifth and final season as the GM of the Sixers, I have to win a Championship so I was more than willing to make a big splash at the trade deadline.

At 5-2, the San Antonio Spurs offered me LaMarcus Aldridge and J.R. Smith for Thad Young and Goran Dragic. I see Aldridge as a big upgrade over Young and Dragic lost his starting job to Smith Jr. so I accepted.

At 28-23 nearing the all-star break, LeBron James suffered a stress foot fracture and was out 4-6 weeks.

At 44-38, I locked up the 7th seed in my final attempt to win a championship.

Kevin Durant wins the MVP

NBA Playoffs 2020

vs 76ers (2) - Lost in 5

Too much youth between Okafor, Simmons and Hield. Only so much LeBron can do.

He did show frustrattion in game 5 knowing he was on the brink of elimination once again, and was called for a flagarant foul when he took down Ben Simmons on a drive to the basket.

The Philadelphia 76ers would go on to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2020 Championhip 4-1. Ben Simmons was crowned the NBA Finals MVP.

At 35 years of age, LeBron is set to walk in free agency as his reign is over in Brooklyn. He gave it a shot but it was unsuccessful.  But that confirms that the Nets are in such a bad place today, in 2016, that even LeBron James can't fix them!
