Tonight the Los Angeles Dodgers sent rookie Ross Stripling to the mound to make his MLB debut against the Giants, in San Francisco. The Giants were third in the MLB with 29 runs scored coming into today, but Stripling would have the benefit of Buster Posey not playing. To everyone's surprise, Stripling took a no-hitter into the 8th inning, before issuing his fourth walk of the night on his 100th pitch. New Dodgers head coach Dave Roberts decided this was the time to remove him from a 2-0 ballgame in favor of reliever Chris Hatcher. This is what happened on the very next pitch:
Trevor Brown's 2-run homer was the first of his MLB career, and just his 8th of his professional baseball career that spanned 1114 ABs before tonight. He did a great job filling in for Posey. So do you think Ross made the right call? Here is what twitter would have done:Dave Roberts takes out Ross Stripling after 7.1 of no-hit ball. Next batter, Trevor Brown 2-run HR for @SFGiants. pic.twitter.com/IunClsspu0— Michael Kelly (@MichaelLKelly) April 9, 2016
You make the call. Would you have left Ross Stripling in the game or would you have pulled him? #Dodgers— FOX Sports: MLB (@MLBONFOX) April 9, 2016
Roberts was ejected in the bottom of the 8th inning.Dave Roberts did NOT make that decision. He was told 100 pitches. 4th ball was pitch #100. The front office dictated that move. #Dodgers— Steve Mason (@SteveMasonESPN) April 9, 2016
Brandon Crawford hit a walkoff HR to win the game for San Fran - 2 Hits 3 Runs 2 HRs
