Houston Astros Promote Alex Bregman

The Houston Astros have called up their 1st round pick from the 2015 MLB Draft, Alex Bregman. Bregman has crushed Minor League pitching across all levels and dominated the 2016 Futures All-Star Game.

The Astros drafted Bregman 2nd overall, behind Dansby Swanson, who was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Swanson was traded to the Atlanta Braves this offseason in the Shelby Miller deal.

Across AA and AAA this year, Bregman has hit 22 doubles and 20 home runs, picking up 61 RBI and scoring 71 runs.  He has drawn 47 walks while striking out just 38 times in 314 ABs.

For now, Bregman will not move Carlos Correa from the SS position, so expect him to play 3B and some OF while having SS eligibility in fantasy baseball.

If things go as planned, he should be able to keep Luis Valbuena on the Astros bench. A.J. Reed was already given a go at the MLB level but struggled and was sent back down.

Bregman has been added in 19% of Yahoo leagues today with the news breaking and 31% owned overall.
