Indians Sign Edwin Encarnación

The Cleveland Indians and free agent 1B/DH Edwin Encarnacion have agreed to a 3-year deal worth $60 million. Encarnacion will replace Mike Napoli at first base, giving the team a perennial power threat in the middle of their lineup.

Last season Encarnacion hit .263 with 42 home runs and led the majors with 127 runs batted in.

Since being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays at the deadline in 2009 by the Cincinnati Reds for Scott Rolen - being claimed off waivers by the Oakland Atheltics, released and re-signed by Toronto - only Miguel Cabrera and Jose Bautista have hit more home runs! His 656 RBI is good 7th best.

With the signing of Encarnacion and a healthy Michael Brantley, the Indians lineup will be among the best in baseball. Combine that with a dominate bullpen & a good starting rotation and Cleveland might have a shot at getting back to the World Series.

2017 Lineup:

1. Carlos Santana - DH
2. Jason Kipnis - 2B
3. Francisco Lindor - SS
4. Edwin Encarnacion - 1B
5. Michael Brantley - LF
6. Jose Ramirez - 3B
7. Lonnie Chisenhall - RF
8. Yan Gomes - C
9. Tyler Naquin - CF
